The Local Communities Reefs Restoration project empowers coastal communities in southwest Madagascar to restore damaged coral reefs through hands-on participation. Using simple, inclusive training, over 380 fishers, both men and women, transplant naturally detached corals and monitor their growth.By engaging villagers in reef restoration, the project not only revives marine ecosystems and fish stocks but also strengthens local conservation awareness and economic resilience. Restored sites will be community-managed and promoted as eco-tourism attractions, creating sustainable livelihoods while protecting Madagascar’s fragile marine biodiversity for future generations.
