Kulanel Qanima’ is a community-led initiative by socially committed and sexually diverse Indigenous women in Totonicapán, Guatemala. The project creates safe, inclusive spaces for children, adolescents, and women to access education, recreation, and health resources rooted in Mayan cosmovision.In one of Guatemala’s poorest Indigenous regions, Kulanel Qanima’ strengthens community organization, empowers youth and future leaders, and promotes restorative justice through self-managed activities. As a first-time grantee, the collective aims to expand educational and mental health programs, support women survivors of violence, and preserve their ancestral forest and cultural heritage.
