The Project

The Malamathi Project by Miyaru–Shark Programme aims to strengthen Fuvahmulah’s four protected areas through community-driven conservation, education, and data collection. Despite being a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the island lacks accessible ecological data and public awareness. This project will install educational boards, conduct biodiversity surveys, and engage local youth, fishers, and women’s groups in monitoring and preserving marine and coastal ecosystems. By bridging science, policy, and community action, Malamathi will enhance conservation, protect biodiversity, and build climate resilience for the people and environment of Fuvahmulah.
