Sowing Climate Hope is a project fighting climate change and enhancing food security in Mexico City neighborhoods by building collectiveness through climate brigades to create and strengthen urban gardens where LEGAIA gives workshops to teach traditional ecological knowledge. With the grant, the project will be replicated across the National University and several more neighborhoods, adding infrastructure to each urban garden, keep a seed bank, set up small events to bring the neighborhoods together, and remunerate the work of the youths bringing the project to life with their hands, minds, and speech. The project will also incorporate ‘little trees of resistance’ where they seek to reforest two regions of their localities, Morelos and the State of Mexico that have been affected by deforestation, loss of aquifers and soil degradation in indigenous territories due to human activity.

Legado Gaia is a climate justice collective made for and by Abya Yala diverse youth. With more than five years of community, their aim is to change the dominant narratives around the climate crisis and its solutions, and to rebuild Mexico’s climate movement around ideals of environmental justice sans narratives of death and capitalism.
