Through the project, Silvi aims conduct multiple activities in Kenya’s Kakamega Forest, including vetting and onboarding nearby small holder farmers, identifying, sourcing and propagating native tree species, and paying small holder farmers and other reforestation agents to plant the propagated trees.The project will also work on creating relationships and buy-in with representatives of the Kenya Forest Services, identifying designated planting areas in the forest, testing the registering of Mother trees and new plantings, and testing technologies like a web app, GIS, dApps, QR codes, hardware, onramp/offramp infrastructure, legal systems, etc.The project hopes to activate more rural communities as paid tree stewards and fulfill Silvi’s vision of people sustaining a dignified livelihood through planting and stewarding the right trees in the right places.
