The Project

HIRAI's project is focused on peat restoration in the Pulang Pisau District of Indonesia’s Kalimantan, specifically targeting degraded peatland. Their efforts will encompass not only peat restoration but also providing support for firefighting activities and engaging with youth to raise awareness about the importance of peat ecosystems.Located in Central Kalimantan, the project will involve the monitoring of the tree's survival rate every six months by measuring the height, counting the survival rate and taking photos of the trees, and the exploration of tree planting activity as an alternative income for local planting partners. The planted trees are expected to help to retain the land’s hydrological function, prevent floods and drought, and help increase the overall climate resilience of the area.
