Through their project, La Labs’ is spearheading three key objectives. One, they aim to genetically modify Chlorella vulgaris to produce an algae species that are proficient in air purification and capable of emitting natural light. These genetic enhancements will allow them to illuminate urban areas efficiently, contributing to energy-efficient lighting solutions.Two, they intend to build and deploy commercially sized Microbial Fuel Cells. These MFCs will play a pivotal role in harnessing the power of microalgae for renewable energy generation, helping to reduce CO2 emissions while providing sustainable electricity.Their third objective includes the development of integrated hydroponic systems. These systems will utilize Chlorella vulgaris to provide essential nutrients for plant growth, effectively functioning as a closed-loop ecosystem, enabling efficient cultivation of both microalgae and other plants.
